Kitoko Oyo: Lingala for 'This Beauty'

This multimedia project seeks to:

  • Showcase the beauty of the DRC
  • Provide a positive resource to the international community
  • Provide an international platform for the people of the DRC to reclaim their voice and share stories of hope

Kitoko Oyo will be produced in both a hard copy book as well as exist on an online platform showcasing interviews, documentaries, and other relevant information and media. The book will provide a lasting, fine art perspective to the project, while the online platform will provide further depth to the stories appearing in the book.

The stories

How do young people become a source of inspiration and hope to their communities? Kitoko Oyo explores how these youth began with an idea then used the simple means they have to bless their communities, by collecting their stories and producing interactive multimedia content. The end result will be an online portion coordinated closely with a fine art book which will work together to produce a fluid and in-depth narrative of each Kitoko Oyo Ambassador.

Online Media

Kitoko Oyo will exist on an online platform showcasing interviews, documentaries, and other relevant information and media. The online platform will provide further depth to the stories appearing in the book.

Currently, the Kitoko Oyo team is collecting stories. They are conducting interviews, live footage, photographs, etc. in the Congo (through intermittent trips); which will then be built into the Kitoko Oyo online platform.

The book

Kitoko Oyo will be produced as a hard copy book. The book will provide a lasting, fine art perspective to the project filled with stunning portraits and beautiful photographs of the Congo. It will be released once the project is finalised. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed about the progress of the project and dates for the book release!

To tell their stories

"Kitoko oyo portrays the hope of Congo. There is hope in Congo because there are young people who are stoping to call themselves victims and work hard to create the future they think they deserve. In Congo every problem is an opportunity for innovation."
